It is true the BioEra Pro needs to have designs created in order to use any input be it eeg or HEG> I am working with the setup now trying to see what can be done
I will be creating a simple HEGduino design in the near future that will include video playback which will either play and pause or dim and restore the brightness.
It will also include midi feedback a graph of the HEG ratio value and the ability o change volume in mp3 files.
Once I have this done and am satisfied with the way it works, I willl offer ir free to anyone using BioEra pro.
I have also asked Jarek is he an update the trial version to include the driver
I'm not sure but you might have to manually apply the latest update if it's at all possible.I would say my software is going to be a better experience anyway, BioEra is a lot more technical and has you create your own flowgraphs and stuff for the visual outputs for more flexibility, while I've simply streamlined everything to get to the point with the training. It has a mountain of resources though otherwise.
The BioEra interface is great news. As you mentioned the cost of the program is a little steep for casual home users. For clinicians and home users looking for a richer feedback experience this is a very good thing
A trial version compatible with HEGduino should be ready for download tomorrow

As a layman, I definitely prefer your approach.
Right now the trial version of BioEra doesn't include HEGduino so we can't try it out.
