Maybe this will be helpful to some of you.
I am technically challenged and haven't figured out how to use the web based software so I have been trying to use the buggy HEG Studio. It's still V 0.4.9 so I don't expect perfection. I'm just trying to make it a little bit functional.
The software generally works for 10-45 seconds but then the readout above the animation disappears and the flight movie freezes and I have to exit and restart the program. My computer is about 9 years old so maybe the computer is too old for this application but it's all I have to work with so I have to make it work.
Even when the movie is playing, it's hard for me to tell how well I'm doing. The movie jumps all over the place. I am assuming if my frontal cortex were properly oxygenated, the movie would play smoothly.
I made a slightly shorter and much more boring video. It has numbers on a blue background counting from 1 to 6. Then to keep things interesting, it shows a photo. Each number and the photo should stay on screen for 2 seconds. With this simple video it's much easier for me to track my progress or lack thereof at this point.
More importantly, the shorter video seems to keep the program from freezing quite so quickly. It still freezes almost 100 percent of the time. And it still sometimes freezes after less than 20 seconds. But I've also been able to get sessions longer than three minutes. That's still too short of a session to be practical but it also seems to be close to my brain's limit now. After three minutes, I'm exhausted.

By the way, there is also a sensitivity slider in the Data menu that acts as a score multiplier. That will help you with the visuals/, I almost forgot. There is a Help page with documentation too. Its in the folder.
The reason I use HEG Studio at all is because I like looking at a big monitor instead of a little phone screen. The new Chrome extension completely takes away my need for HEG Studio. Thank you very much for that.
The extension seems to be working well. For one thing, it doesn't crash or freeze. For that reason alone, it leaves HEGStudio in the dust.
I mainly use the circle feedback as I can affect more noticeable changes in the diameter than I can in the speed of the video or the volume of the audio. I haven't tried the others modes yet.
I tried using the extension and the phone app at the same time and the two circles seemed to grow or shrink in sync most of the time. Since I was trying to have a session while simultaneously trying to observe the session on two screens, my observations are possibly not that reliable but I thought I'd mention it anyway.
Thank you for all your hard work.
At this point I would recommend trying instead to use the video interface I have provided in my own software, it has its flaws but it is at least going to function. It takes MP4 files. I'm not sure I can redeem HEGstudio now after scanning through the code for obvious issues. I might just take it down, as I do have my own video player.
I just made a Chrome Extension version of my web API that enables either the WiFi or USB communication with my own interface. You can even pin it to your taskbar so it has a quick shortcut. I would try that, it's in the More folder of my repository, just follow the instructions I provided for adding it to your browser. Make sure you update your device, too, as I made some minor protocol changes to make it work.
In the Chrome Extension: To connect via WiFi, you connect to your HEG's wifi signal, then go to the Data Menu and click "Connect" under the Host option near the table at the bottom of the menu. You don't have to do this if you access the interface from the device itself, as it automatically sets this. For USB, there's an option in the top right corner that lets you scan and connect for USB devices. Just got this all working in the past couple days, so I'm working on performance optimizations, but the chrome extension is an easier way to interact and is working really well.
Even though it's buggy as hell, I'm still trying to use HEG Studio. I must be a glutton for punishment. Now I am having a problem where after it opens it closes immediately. I've done a system restore and I also reinstalled the software. Neither fixed the problem. Any ideas?
I found a video loop of a clock face with the hands going around quickly. If the clock is going forward, I'm doing OK. If it's running backward, I'm not OK. It's much easier to tell if my brain is doing what I'm hoping it will do with the clock video than the flying video.
Also, thanks for the note on the Moto E4, I'll add that to the compatibility testing list. The browser world is kind of a weird one in terms of what is compatible on what phones, there's a lot going on in this software these days, Microsoft can't even be bothered to keep up with their browsers.
Make it bigger! It is really just to help indicate your activity but in general the goal is to raise your overall brain oxygenation level i.e. the ratio and score. If you're getting weird triangular blips on the graph then make sure you're up to date as I've been tweaking the filtering to catch bizarro signal errors, which happen occasionally on the WiFi connection due to some kind of crosstalk. The hill climb feedback mode works too (not a lot to look at yet, but more is coming), not sure how many phones will let you load the mp4s or mp3s for video or audio. I gotta add some tooltips and indicators into the app, among a lot of quality of life features to make the goals clear.
Chrome and Firefox were causing a lot of frustration. Then I read your post about the different browsers on the different phones. So I downloaded Brave on my Moto E4 and the app worked.
So now my question is this, is the object to make the circle bigger or smaller? I assume bigger but I want to be sure so I don't train my brain in the wrong direction. Like so many others, I'm stuck at home so maybe now I can get a lot of brain training done.
Thanks for all your help.
I'm not sure but I think a problem I'm having is that my cell phone plan doesn't allow tethering.
Hey Bob, I've noticed issues mounting with HEGstudio again, it's something that was in heavy disrepair when I found it and took quite a bit of fixing just to get running again. Bob Marsh even paid me for some of the fixes about a year ago. The HEGmovie mode has not been working again lately and yeah I believe there is a memory leak causing it to crash after about a minute. I'll see what I can do about it, it has to be a simple fix. For the web based software, you connect to a WiFi hotspot created by the device when plugged in. The name will be "My_HEG" in your list of available connections, with password "12345678". After that open up Chrome or Firefox and type the address "192.168.4.1". That will bring you to the main menu where you can access the web app, update the device, or mess with connection settings.
